Helloo!! Welcome back or welcome to my blog!! In my past few blogs, we've been talking a lot about the in's and out's of my film, but we have yet to discuss where my group and I may have pulled inspiration from. In film, there are plenty of girly coming of age films with an emotional twist, but we also pulled a great deal of inspiration from more emotional, scenic movies. In today's blog post, let's discuss some of my inspirations for our final film.
For one, when the storyline was being pitched to me, I tried to envision the vibe through thinking of movies I have already seen. A few movies I thought of were:
Turtles All the Way Down is a coming of age movie about a teenage girl trying to find her way through life while struggling with OCD, but she finds strength through her relationship with her best friend. This movie circulates themes of friendship, change, and heartbreak, similar to our film. I really enjoyed the use of camera shots and angles in this movie as well. Also, I took inspiration of the color scheme in this movie to apply to our flashback scenes in our film. For example, in a lot of scenes, usually the light-hearted ones, there is a warm, vibrant filter that sets a comforting, fun mood.

Waves is an emotional A24 film about a young man whose life changes after a rage-driven mistake. This is actually a really sad film, but it showcases a heartbreaking love story with a great use of lighting and color schemes. After the change in the climax, it almost feel like you're watching a completely movie; The color hues and angle choices shift to create a depressing, eerie, suspenseful atmosphere. I took inspiration from this stark contrast in this movie to apply to the contrasts between the flashback and present day scenes in our film. I wanted there to be a clear distinction between the vibrant, fun past and the cold, sad present.

They also include an aesthetic car scene illuminated by natural light... Feel familiar?😉😉 This was actually pure coincidence, but a very fun parallel with our film!
Lastly, theres Little Women. Little Women is a classic about the life of four sisters finding their way in the world. In this 2019 rendition of the classic, there are also alternating flashback and present sequences. The plot of our story reminded me of this movie because it also surrounds the separation of a close-knit four member girl group. As much as there are heart-warming fun moments, there are also sad, tear-jerking moments of separation and hurt.
