Helloo!! Welcome back or welcome to my blog!! In today's post, I wanted to talk about some of the symbolisms and easter eggs in my film. During this journey, my group and I put a lot of thought into the details of the story, some of which might not be the most evident at first glance. So, in this post, let's dive deeper into these details.
1. College Sweatshirts
Throughout the entire production process, my group and I always wanted the film to look as realistic as possible. One of the first things we wanted to include costume-wise was sweatshirts of each college. To achieve this, we actually reached out to friends asking if anyone had any merch from the colleges we were mentioning. Luckily, we got answers back! Sending a big thanks to Mariana's friend Janelle Agurcia and one of our close friends Abdelhamid Saleh for letting us borrow their merch! Abdelhamid provided us with a UF sweatshirt and Janelle let us use her UCF one. That meant we had Phi and Mariana's sweaters checked off✅✅. That left Nahomy and I's. Since no one we knew had USF merch and it was pretty pricey online, I decided to get creative and make my own. I remembered that I had iron-on letter patches in my craft drawer and decided to create a make-shift USF Architecture program sweater. My character Maria was going to college for architecture, so I did a little research and found that USF had an architecture program called USF School of Architecture and Community Design (S.A.C.D). I patched this on an old dark green sweater to match the school colors, and just like that we had merch for Maria! For Nahomy, we visited the merch shop at FSU when we were on the college trip, and she was able to buy a cute FSU sweatshirt there. Now, as you all know by now, we did end up switching Mariana/ Vale's school later in the production process. This meant that we also had to switch the sweatshirt. Since this swap was so short notice, Mariana also created her own University of Miami sweatshirt with an iron-on print transfer on an old green sweater. At the end, everything worked out perfectly!
2. Decorative Pictures
Keeping up with the realism in the film, we also went the extra mile by printing real-life pictures of our friend group to decorate the set with. When we were conspiring the plot for this project, we wanted to convey a summery, girly vibe in our flashback scenes. Although Mariana's room already had this vibe, it still needed extra spice. Before we all decided to join forces, Mariana and Phi had started preparing for their old project's idea by taking "childhood" picture and printing them out. They also gathered a few photos from the internet to appeal to a nostalgic vibe. Keeping up with this idea, after we all regrouped together, we knew that we already had photos perfect for the vibe we wanted to create! Given the fact that we are indeed a close friend group IRL, we had plenty of pictures of the four of us from beach hangouts to parties and holidays. If you look closely, you can see all of these real memories in a few scenes! This made us feel even more connected to the storyline🥺🥺

3. Calendar
Another little detail to notice is the calendar scenes. If you look closely, you can see that on Vale's calendar, there are many marked events to give that realistic feel. Also, we added a few easter eggs for comedic effect😉

Many events are marked in Vale's calendar such as a pool day, which was showcased in the film, a hangout with the girls, a lunch with mom, a date with her (fake) boyfriend Santi, the going away party, a doctors appointment, moving day, and school orientation. There are also little reminders to pack scattered around the calendar. To further girlify the prop, we decorated the calendar in fun colors with little doodles. For a cheeky comedic effect, we jotted down a 'date with Santi' reminder followed by 'break up with Santi'😆. This was really funny for some of our viewers to notice!! Additionally, the calendar meticulously includes real events that occurred in the film in chronological order, with the sequence showing time passing after each flashback and present day scene. This allows the audience to understand the sequence of events just in case the contrasting filters between flashback and present day weren't clear enough.
