5.) Movie Analysis - Kill Bill Volume 1 *spoilers!!*

Helloo! Welcome back or welcome to my blog! In this post, I will be analyzing the camera shots and angles in one of my favorite movies- Kill Bill Volume 1.

                                                                       Two Shot-

In this part of Kill bill, The Bride and Vernita Green are brutally battling. In this specific scene, they are having a stand off right after a heightened moment in their fight. To capture this, a two shot is used to where both people are shown in the frame. In this shot, the reactions on both characters faces are visible as well as their body language, allowing for viewers to read the relationship between them, creating even more suspense.

POV+Low Angle-
This scene shows a flashback The Bride has to when she was attempted to be murdered. At this point, she was on the floor unable to move and this shot was what she saw. This scene utilizes both a POV shot and a low angle. Viewers can see The Bride's perspective and get inside her head. A low angle is used to emphasize her vulnerability compared to the four subjects strong and menacing looks. This vulnerability created by the low angle goes hand in hand with the essence of the POV shot, displaying The Bride's state is comparison to the subjects.

Extreme Close-Up-
This scene takes place when The Bride first locks eyes with O-Ren. When she sees her, she instantly gets a flashback to when she was close to dying and looking up at O-Ren- one of the people who contributed to trying to kill her. Through the extreme close-up, viewers are able to read The Brides emotional state through the intense emotional detail, shown through the furrow of her eyebrows and shock in her eyes.

Overhead Shot-
In this scene, we see The Bride surrounded by O-ren's henchmen, each one bearing a sword towards her. This scene depicts an overhead shot. Within this, we can see the setting long with the amount of people in the shot with The Bride in the dead center. This captures how she is enclosed by danger. The use of this overhead angle better allows for the audience to get a deeper understanding of the circumstances.

Over the shoulder shot-
This scene displays when The Bride and O-ren finally come in personal contact and speak. The camera is positioned  behind O-ren and facing The Bride, making it an over the shoulder shot. This shot choice shows the spiteful relationship between the two, given the fact that it is this first time actually speaking, which increases the suspense.

4.) Transition Work

Jump Cut-

When filming this shot, I had to prop my camera (iPhone) onto a tall object to get a higher angle of the shot. To make sure I had enough variety of footage, for about 30 seconds I rummaged through the book quickly to create a sense of urgency and franticness. To edit, I clipped small parts of the video and put it all together in a different order. I'm happy with the mood of franticness that I was able to convey.๐Ÿ“–

Cut in-

For this scene, I first filmed a fuller shot of a wall in my room. I then filmed a separate shot of a zoomed- in cut of a specific picture frame. I simply put the shots together one after the other. I wanted to convey a dramatic effect, suggesting a deeper meaning behind the cut-in picture.๐Ÿ–ผ

 Wipe-

To get this video, I first filmed my cat standing by a doorframe. As soon as I finished recording, she moved spots in the house, so I took it as an opportunity for another shot. For the second shot, I quickly grabbed on of her toys to make sure she didn't run away. When I crouched down to record her, she was already curious to what I was doing and was sniffing me, so she stayed in the shot. I then rolled the toy which attracted her to it. I used a video cut app to apply the wipe transition from one shot to the next. I wanted to convey a change in mood through her stillness in the first shot, and her playfulness in the second.๐Ÿ˜ผ
