23.) Plotwist!!

Helloo!! Welcome back or welcome to my blog! In today's post, I have big news dictating the trajectory of my project. In my previous blog posts, I have mentioned my friends: Mariana Van Brackel, Phi Le, and Nahomy Castro. These girls were my old group for the movie opener before I decided to work solo due to restricting availability circumstances. With that being said, it seems like fate had a different plan for us! I am now abandoning my previous plot and plan and we are recouping as a group! In this post, I will be going over all of the aspects going into our new plot so, this'll be lengthy!

New plot: In this coming-of-age indie teen drama, the lives of four girls are followed as they pass through the motions of life. Our film will focus on themes of love, friendship, change, distance, and sadness. As four best friends named Vale, Eli, Yve, and Maria spend what feels like an endless summer together driving around blasting music, getting slushies, and having slumber parties, one of the biggest changes of their lives approaches- Leaving for college. We plan to showcase alternating scenes of flashbacks and present-day to show the process of moving away while also reminiscing on the good old times. Our film will capture intense emotions of exhilarating fun, and the heartbreaking grief of how things used to be. This film will be titled, Where We Were.

Group members:

As I've previously mentioned, my group now will consist of Mariana Van Brackel, Phi Le, and Nahomy Castro. We will all be actors in our opener, and all lot of our duties will bleed into each other, with all of us fulfilling some of the same tasks behind the scenes. In specific, Mariana will be our editor and director, Phi is our creative director, Nahomy is our executive producer, and I am the production designer. In addition, we are all the costume designers. To add to our crew, we also have the help of friends outside of media studies, James Nguyen and Jason Truong. James is our designated filmer and Jason is our transportation source.

Main character analysis: Our main character is Vale, played by Mariana. Vale's character is an outgoing, optimistic friend with a loud personality. She is a Colombian migrant, with a background filled with trials and tribulations. Due to her past trauma migrating to the U.S, she has developed a perfectionist personality with big dreams of becoming a politician. Her hobbies include singing and reading.
Our beautiful main character

Supporting characters: The supporting characters our okayed by Nahomy, Phi, and myself. Nahomy will be playing Yve, Phi will be playing Eli, and I will be playing Maria.
  • Yve:

Yve is our wild child, with a rebellious spirit and an outgoing personality. She could be described as the bad influence, but the reality is, she finds an escape from her troubled home life by relying on hanging out with her friends. Her main aim in going to college is to pursue psychology, but she heavily displays an interest in partying and having fun at school.
  • Eli:

Eli is more on the shy side. She was bullied when she was younger, making her a little bit more reserved. Despite this, she is extremely kind and sweet. She is easily influence by Yve's edgy ideas, and often just goes with the flow. She is extremely smart, plays the piano, and has dreams of becoming a dermatologist after college.
  • Maria:

Maria is the good influence, with a more level-headed personality. She is an artistic person with an old soul. She is calm and caring for her friends, always looking out for them but she also has a wild side herself. She has dreams of pursuing architecture to provide for her family.

Costuming: For the flashback scenes, the girls will be wearing youthful, summery clothes (shorts and cropped tees) to represent their fun, cute vibes during the summer season. In the gas station scene, the girls are seen wearing pajama pants and baggy hoodies to represent their juvenile, "I don't care" attitude. In contrast, the present day will showcase dull, simple, comfy lounge wear with little spunk to represent the sadness of their separation from each other. In both the past and the present, the girls are seen repping their college merch to one, show where they are going, and two, emphasize their differences in paths. Vale will be repping UCF, Eli UF, Yve FSU, and Maria USF.

Color Schemes: For our flashback scenes, we will be showcasing warm and bright orange hues with youthful saturated colors to represent the fun vibrancy of summer. Scenes will be shot during golden hour and at night. The night will feel vibrant and glowy. In contrast the present day scenes are dull and cold. The filter will have blue hues with a washed out, gloomy look. This dim vibe represents the girls' sadness of leaving their lives behind to start new ones without each other.
